January’s Quarterly Meeting was productive for planning around a variety of topics. Roles and responsibilities were were assigned to a few SCFP Spouses around a number of topics.
Regarding our department’s upcoming Family BBQ (The Druid’s Rugby Club, June 1st, 3pm), Spouse Stephanie has brainstormed the bulk of activities, including lawn games, bouncy castles, and more. She will soon be creating an interactive group to connect those who wish to be involved in facilitating the event. Please stay tuned and contact us if you’d like to be involved!
SCFP Spouse Alison presented her Firehall Cook Book Fundraising idea to much enthusiasm. She plans to start campaigning for Firefighter recipes, and we will need support from their spouses to make sure those recipes are submitted within the time frame. In a delightful development, Legacy Place Society has extended their support of both the project and our Association, and have offered to help us offset some of the initial printing costs. Alison’s project has received a lot of support in the Facebook group and we look forward to working together to bring it to life! Contact us if you would like to be a part of it’s creation.
With conversation around fundraising, the next topic of interest turned to whether or not our Association ought to apply for non-profit status. This may involve our group formalizing and naming board members. SCFP Spouse Michelle has offered to look into the options and give her recommendation.
A desire to extend greater friendship to new moms on our department has also been expressed by a few of our Association spouses. We are currently looking in to ways in which we can more personally celebrate the new babies and mothers on our department, and SCFP Spouse Robin has expressed her interest in leading this initiative.
We were also fortunate to have guest speaker Colette Benoit of the Front Line Resiliency Project present the workshops and events she and her husband Gary, a 20+ year Edmonton Police Officer, will soon be hosting. Colette and Gary’s seminars come highly recommended by one of our connections in the County Communications department.
As generous thanks for welcoming their attendance at our meeting, Benoit Wellness has donated two tickets for their upcoming event (image above) in March – a value of $450! The owner of these tickets will be chosen at random on Monday, January 28th; if you would like your name added to the draw, please add it using the contact form below. If you are the winner, you are welcome to keep both tickets in order to take your partner or a friend as a guest to the event, or to submit the second ticket to be re-drawn.
