From IAFF Local 2461:
You may have read the following email from Chief Elliott but we also wanted to send an note regarding it.
This opportunity is a result of the interest our IAFF members showed during the info sessions. Your executive has worked with Mrs. Sharry Sowiak on this next step, as this has been an initiative between her and the association.
We feel it is important that you are aware of this opportunity but want to reiterate that it is completely voluntary.
The following was written by Mrs. Sowiak and emailed from D/C Elliott:
As Emergency Services staff members you know the importance of planning ahead. Strathcona County wants to make it easier for you and your family to plan for the future – through an estate planning opportunity.
Doris Bonora, who recently facilitated the wills and estate planning sessions, and her associates at Denton’s Canada LLP, have offered the opportunity to SCES employees, their spouses or partners to develop their wills at a discounted rate. If interested, we will arrange sessions for you and your partners to meet with representatives of Denton’s Canada after your shifts at a time convenient for you at Station 6. To help make your meetings productive a representative of Denton’s will ask you some questions in advance of your meeting and will assist you throughout the process.
They have offered the discounted rate for this service of $950 per couple and $750 per individual plus GST and disbursements (expected to be $70) for preparing the will, enduring powers of attorney and personal directives.
If you’re interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, contact Strathcona County Human Resources at [email protected] by January 31, 2019. HR will work with Denton’s Canada LLP, an estate planning provider, to schedule accordingly.
Please note that although we are pleased to offer this discount and what we believe is a convenient form of delivery, your participation is entirely your choice.
If interested, please follow the instructions above and contact any member of the executive with any questions.
In solidarity,
