I thought it might be a good idea to put together a quick list that links to where services for our families and members can be found. Remember, if you need any help finding resources or just want to talk to a friend, you can privately and confidentially contact any member of the SCFPSA Outreach Team.
Member Resources
This page displays all resources available to SCFPSA families as part of their employee benefits and union contract. Some resources include the Shepell Employee and Family Assistance Program which is a free, confidential program that can direct you to an online counsellor 24/7. Shepell will ask the user for their organization (use “Strathcona County”), but the program never reports back to the employer. To check out the program online immediately, click here.
Members also have access to a trained peer support team, clinical psychologist Jeff Sych, and the disability management team. All family members of Strathcona County Firefighter Paramedics are also welcome to privately contact our Department Chaplain, Greg Hochhalter, and the Member Resources page lists his contact information.
Private Resources
For those more comfortable seeking assistance outside of department programs, this page features a list of local private resources including therapists, counsellors, addiction specialists, and financial services. All of the service providers on this list have been personally vetted and recommended by First Responders (employed Edmonton Police Services or Strathcona County Emergency Services) and/or their Families for their ability to understand and accommodate the First Responder experience (including shift work, childcare needs, etc.).
Benefits Information
This page will help link you to information regarding our families’ benefits and contracts. Recently, our benefits information improved to cover counselling services up to $3000/year for each Strathcona County Firefighter Paramedic and their immediate or dependant family members (to be clearer, that $3000/person in the house/year)
Some of these pages are password protected, and all of our password protected pages use the same password. If you would like access to these pages and more (such as our gallery or babysitter’s directory), please contact SCFPSA Communication Lead, Katie, using the form below. All SCFP Members and Spouses are welcome to access these pages or inquire of the password. Alternatively, ask another SCFPSA Spouse – someone’s bound to know it!
