As discussed during SCFPSA’s October meeting, our group sees value in forming an Outreach Team.
The outreach team would be made up of personable, compassionate, outgoing, and discreet SCFP Spouses in our group. Ideally, there would be one or two Outreach Team Members from each platoon, however, we will take ALL nominations at this time. It would be each Outreach Team Member’s responsibility to welcome the spouses of new hires to our department (simply by introducing oneself to the new spouse, introducing the new spouse to another SCFPSA spouse who might be in the same stage of life / same interests, offering an open coffee invite, or adding them to the Facebook Group, for example). Outreach Team Members would also be responsible for reaching out to spouses who transfer platoons (even if only to present a familiar face a Christmas parties).
Our Outreach team would also serve in acting as a confidential liaison within our group. Each Outreach Team Member’s name and email will be listed on our website. If a member of our group is struggling to find assistance – or simply needs someone to talk to – she or he will be able to find a friendly, knowledgable face through our website: they will be directly connected with someone who can help them allocate resources or even just lend morale support. The Outreach Team Member can also report back to our group with any concerns regarding resources, complaints, or worries without naming the Spouse who originally reported the problem.
It was requested in our meeting that Outreach Team Members be nominated by others, just as our Firefighter Paramedics’ Peer Support program is made up of peer-nominated individuals. Therefore, we are taking nominations: if you know someone who would make an excellent addition to the SCFPSA Outreach Team, please ask his or her permission before nominating them, and then send your nomination through the contact form at the bottom of this page.
Please contact us if you wish to volunteer!
