On Sunday, December 9th, SCFP Spouse Association celebrated a successful fundraising event hosted by the SCFP Spouse Shelley in her family-owned gym, Little Sweatshop. During the tree decorating event, a small market was held with vendors representing such SCFP family-owned businesses as Charcoal and Lace, Raw Sheen Designs, and Vintage Jewelry Girls YEG. Strathcona Fire Pipes and Drums also sold vinyl decals and tickets to their upcoming Robbie Burns Night Fundraiser.
Proceeds made during this event have been added to a collection raised in order to send Michelle Anderson and her three daughters to the Fire Fit Games in Kamloops this summer. Fire Fit played an important role in the life of our recently fallen Lieutenant Darren Anderson, and members of our department wish to honour his contributions to the games and fellow athletes by sending his wife and daughters to attend in tribute.
Says organizer of the fundraiser, Strathcona Firefighter Paramedic Brad Dicks,
The money will specifically be going to fly Michelle and the girls to Kamloops and pay for their hotel room for the weekend. Any money we make over and above will be going to hotel rooms for them in Calgary. My goal right now is to try and hit $1500 for Kamloops.
So far, $345 was raised for this cause at the Platoon Four Christmas party. Added to this amount will be the proceeds from the Grinch Tree Event, and future fundraisers will include an upcoming Carolling event and spring bottle drive.
